Student Placements

Students are allocated to the ward from a wide and varied range of courses and organisations.

The majority of pre-registration Nursing Students on placement within the hospital come from Bell College, Hamilton.

We offer a wealth of experience for students who are allocated to the ward. A suggested programme of learning is provided for diploma students to work through. All students meet with their Mentor within the first few days of arriving on the ward.

The learning opportunities range from the general aspects of surgical nursing, speciality based experience, Pre-Assessment clinics, Theatre and outpatients. In addition, we hold a selected range of learning resources on the ward including a range of specially prepared printed material (Survival Guides).

EN Conversion Students
Many Enrolled Nurses within Lanarkshire received funding to convert to first level registration. As part of this course some students are allocated to Ward 9 for their surgical placement. Again a suggested programme is outlined to the students on arrival.

Pre-Nursing and Work Experience
Some students from Coatbridge, Motherwell and Cardonald Colleges attend the ward on placement as part of these courses.
