The ENT Service in Lanarkshire was centralised in Monklands Hospital on the 6th October 1997. The unit comprises of 28 adult ENT beds and six Maxillofacial Surgery beds.

All ENT and Maxillofacial inpatient treatment is carried out in Monklands Hospital. Serving a population of over 600,000, in excess of 3,500 patients are treated within the unit every year including an average 280 elective operations per month. The unit is also open to emergency admissions seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Day surgery and Outpatient services continue in all the Acute hospitals in Lanarkshire. Within Monklands Hospital, Day Surgery is performed in the dedicated Day Surgery Unit within the hospital which serves a range of specialities.

Monklands Hospital is a 544 bedded general hospital, located 8 miles to the east of Glasgow. The hospital covers a population of around 250,000 people. Until recently, Monklands together with Hairmyres and Wishaw Hospitals were known as Lanarkshire Acute Hospital Trust. This has now been integrated into NHS Lanarkshire.
