Head and Neck Cancer The amount of head and neck cancer treated in the department continues to increase year on year.
The pattern of this disease has also changed over time. While previously viewed as a disease of older men, we now see a growing trend of younger patients, as well as more woman than ever before.
The staff in the unit are committed to providing the best care possible for these patients and their families.
Establishing step down beds has given the staff the resource to provide quality nursing care following major surgery. They no longer need to split their time between major patients and a more routine caseload.
In addition, the staff raised money to open a small room that allows patients and their family some privacy while discussing their care with the medical and nursing staff.
The treatments provided by the department offers increasingly complex surgery. All radiotherapy is provided by the Beatson Oncology Centre, Glasgow.
